Reading
Throughout the year, the students are exposed to a variety of genres. The use of the literature book, novels, and articles give the students a wide range of exposure to fiction and nonfiction works. The students are taught use a close reading code for both fiction and nonfiction works along with using the R.A.C.E format to answer questions.

Grammar
Students learn a variety of grammar skills in which they are to apply to their writing.
The main focus of 7th grade grammar is as follows: phrase vs. clause, appositive phrase, dependent and independent clause, relative clause, simple, compound and complex sentences, modifiers, pronouns, nouns, commasand verb shift.
The main focus of 8th grade grammar is as follows: verbals ( participles, gerunds, and infinitives), active and passive voice, modifiers, pronouns, verb shift, semicolons, commas, ellipses, and nouns.
Writing
Students write narrative, information, and argumentative essays as well as poetry. The students use criterion.ets.org to write these essays. During research writing the students will learn how to create citations correctly.
Spelling
Every week the students study a different spelling rule. For every lesson, students are given two assignments on spellingcity.com to complete as well as pages in their spelling book.
Religion
7th Grade- Faith: Responding to God; The Bible: The Prophets; The Bible; The Bible: The Gospel of Mark; The Bible: Women of the New Testament; Jesus Christ, True God and True Man; The Birth of Jesus; Jesus Teaches; Jesus Heals; The Death of Jesus; The Resurrection of Jesus; The Holy Spirit; Grace and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
8th Grade- We spend most of our year together preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. To guide our learning, we use a Confirmation preparatory workbook, Chosen, from Ascension Press. Each student will receive a workbook that goes along with this video series. Each chapter has a set of videos with different accredited speakers for each topic. You will receive a Parent’s Guide and Sponsor’s Guide, along with more information about Confirmation preparation requirements.
